The New Bronze Age
JUNE 15 - JULY 10, 2020

What is it about bronze?

A romantic partnership of two metals melded together to form something greater than their respective parts, bronze is the decorative embodiment of solidity and strength. Bronze has always required trade, and even today this lustrous marriage of organic ores, long associated with spiritual reliquaries from ancient Greece to Southeast Asia, provides us with a robust vessel for dialogue. From Etruscan incense burners to the works of Les Lalanne, Henry Moore, and Giacometti, to contemporary artisans working in the medium, what we may ultimately admire about bronze is it’s emotional intelligence, it’s grand ability to hold shape and shine. In a world of discord, bronze stands for stability, truth and permanence; a polished and pock-marked beacon of our unwavering faith in beauty and craft in a world of smoke, screens, and mirrors.
